Welcome to my digital home. I’m glad you stopped by.

Please get comfortable and hang out with me for a while.

A Little About Me

I’m a physician and board-certified internal medicine specialist. In the early 1990’s, when the internet was still new and personal computers were rare, we began to use email with our medical practice. Before long, I had a computer of my own and a personal email address. The internet opened a world of possibilities, and I started an email prayer ministry for my church. It soon expanded to include hundreds of people around the world.

After several years, I took an evening pottery course with friends. The first lesson changed my life. Working with the clay was a deeply moving, intensely spiritual experience, and I began to write about it following each class. Hitting send to my email list with the first story was frightening. Within a few weeks, people began to say, “I didn’t know you were a writer,” and I’d reply, “Neither did I.”

Writing Journey

Rearing my son on our little farm in Northeast Mississippi was pure joy. He grew up in 4-H, where he showed cows, goats, horses, and pigs, and competed in everything from public speaking to building robots. After high school, he moved to Atlanta for college, graduated, and started work with a well-known digital company. My nest was empty, and my stories grew longer.

In 2013, I sensed the Lord leading me in a new direction. “Start a blog,” that Still, Small Voice seemed to say. After I Google’d “what is a blog” and “how to start a blog”, Lines from Leanna was born. Readers around the world have viewed blog posts hundreds of thousands of times.

The fall of 2014 brought another change when I left medicine to write for a while.  I soon ventured into fiction writing and completed my first novel. This Christian suspense/thriller was a finalist in the Oregon Christian Writer’s Cascade competition, won first place in the ACFW First Impressions competition and in the ACFW Genesis competition.

My Partnership

The temporary break from medicine became a long-term hiatus. Although I still practice “mission medicine,” I no longer have an active practice in the U.S. Instead, I write both fiction and non-fiction and serve as Director of Intercessory Prayer and Outreach for Global Outreach International, a mission agency.

Leanna’s priorities for ministry include:

  • SHARING the gospel primarily with high-risk teens
  • SERVING through providing personal hygiene supplies and water to the homeless community and a feeding program for food-insecure students
  • EQUIPPING believers to go deeper in the disciple life through retreats, Bible studies, and one-on-one discipling
  • SUPPORTING missionaries through prayer and encouragement and connecting senior adults in long-term care facilities with missionaries in the field as prayer partners.

If you’d like to help provide food for hungry students, help take the gospel to high-risk teens, participate in any of the other ministries mentioned above, or learn more about Global Outreach please click the button below.
